What Size Should Frame TV Art Be?

Understand 16:9, 3840 × 2160 and why the file ratio matters more than a familiar print size.

Frame TV artwork is sized for a screen rather than a wall print. That changes the question from inches of paper to proportion, resolution and how the composition will sit inside the television frame.

Think in proportions

Samsung Frame TVs use a wide 16:9 shape. A matching artwork file fills the display more naturally than a portrait image or a square crop stretched across the screen.

A 16:9 composition also gives the artist space to place a horizon, figure or focal detail without forcing it against the edges.

Why 3840 × 2160 is useful

3840 × 2160 is a high-resolution 16:9 format that suits 4K televisions. It gives the display enough detail for textures, brushwork and small tonal changes to remain convincing at normal viewing distance.

The television may resize the image internally, but starting with a properly prepared file avoids unnecessary softness or scaling surprises.

Do not confuse screen size with file size

A 55-inch television and a 65-inch television can both use the same 16:9 artwork. The physical screen size changes; the composition ratio does not.
